Event Tourism Forum
“Applying Government’s Event Indicators in Supporting Events”
27-28 September 2019, Sandton, Johannesburg: (09h00-17h00)
What are the Lessons from the Johannesburg and Gauteng Province’s Event Tourism Experiences?
What makes it one of South Africa’s most sought after Destinations for Events?
The the 5th Event Tourism Forum will take place in Johannesburg alongside this year’s edition of the Joy of Jazz Festival in Sandton , which is one of the country’s biggest events on the social calendar.
It is no secret that the Festival brings millions of Rand into the city’s economy and the Forum will unpack the investment strategies made by all the tourism stakeholders to generate these big pay-offs and at the same time using major events to promote a premier destination to benefit the region’s broader economy.
The key Forum theme will focus on the potential partnership opportunities that exist for local municipalities and provinces during major events and how they could create win-win partnerships to also extract value from out-of-town visitors.
Strategic international partnerships are also a key strategy to assist with the growth of major events and the resultant benefits to a destination and its attractions.
The lessons of these sustainable strategies would be shared and unpacked at the Forum with delegates being able to further entrenched their knowledge on what it takes to increase visitor numbers during major events.
Acording to organiser, Gerrit Davids, Director at TaranisCo Advisory, “the Forum will lends itself to an open conversation wherein all stakeholders can share ideas and concepts on sustainable strategies on how to partner each other in order to manage the challenges posed by an uncertain and disruptive economy”.
Davids says that “that it is incumbent on all stakeholders to place an intrinsic value on their local assets in alignment with the Event Indicators as issued by the Department of Tourism to ensure that events that are supported by government indeed create the desired impact and generate the required return on investment”.
The up-coming Destination Africa Summit and African Festival Awards will also be launched at the Forum.
Key Forum Themes
Based on National Tourism Event Indicators, the Forum will focus on the Event Indicators under the Event Measurement Framework as stipulated by the National Tourism Department as the basis for approving applications to assess the events’ impact in line with these indicators.
The objective of these Indicators will be outlined and unpacked in the Forum to guide municipalities on how to measure their support for event applications in line with its own tourism destination objectives.
